It's been a minute since I last refreshed my makeup drawer and I figured since I'm always at Target, I might as well pop down the beauty aisle and see what's new. I'm a creature of habit when it comes to my makeup (especially face products) but I'm a little more adventurous when it comes to my lips, nails and eyes-- especially at the holidays. I noticed lots of jewel tones like burgundy, cobalt, emerald green and violet as I was browsing. Keep on scrollin' for a closer look at everything I scooped up!

Essie Expressie Quick-Dry Nail Polish in Misfit Right In

I haven’t regularly worn nail polish in months (I don’t have the patience to wait for it to dry,)  but I noticed essie came out with a new line of quick dry polishes so I figured why not give one a try. Y’all, my nails dried in less than two minutes! I did two coats, but think I would’ve even been fine with one. The formula went on so smooth and the angled brush made application a breeze. Time is precious these days and products that help me save it are like GOLD. I bought the shade “misfit right in” — it’s the prettiest deep shimmery reddish bronze and perfect for this time of year.

Have you ever tried a colored mascara? I think the last time I used one was probably in middle or high school, but I was feeling adventurous and decided to test out L’Oréal’s Voluminous Original mascara in deep green and deep burgundy. So far I’ve been using the deep green and love it paired with jewel tone shadows. I’ve also really been liking these eyeliner and brow pencil!

Let’s talk lips! If you’re looking for a long-wearing statement lip shade that will look great in holiday pictures and won’t transfer when you’re eating or smooching your loved ones, then you need this combo: Maybelline Super Stay Ink CrayonNYX Lip Lingerie XXL Liquid Lipstick. Both can be worn alone, but I actually like them layered. I apply the crayon first as a base and then add a coat of liquid lipstick— basically to seal in the look and prevent transfer. Both formulas dry with a matte finish, but the liquid lipstick is  incredibly long-lasting and actually accentuates the natural shape of your lips. It comes in 24 shades and can last up to 16 hours!

Let's talk body care! Prior to my pregnancy I was never that picky with body lotions. Pretty much my only criteria was that a product had to be super moisturizing as I've always struggled with dry skin. After I found out I was pregnant I started paying more attention to ingredients and decided to ditch any fragrance-filled lotions in favor of products with cleaner, non-toxic ingredients. Then once my bump started making an appearance back in March, I added a few oils and balms to my routine to help keep any potential stretch marks at bay.

BODY MOISTURIZERS  // Mutha Body OilMutha Body Butter

When I mentioned on Instagram that I was looking for stretch mark cream recommendations, Mutha products came highly recommended! So far I’ve tried the body oil and body butter and really love both! I’ve primarily been using the body oil solely on my belly, hips, thighs and boobs to prevent stretch marks. It’s formulated with 100% organic botanical oils, packed with vitamins, absorbs fast, helps prevent fine lines and is safe for sensitive skin types.

The body butter is SO decadent and thick. To apply I take a glob in the palm of my hands and massage it– basically warming it up so the consistency turns more lotion-like. I’ll use this on dry days when I feel my skin could use some an extra hydrating treat– especially my elbows and knees! The ingredients are also 100% natural and formulated to help fade and prevent stretch marks. Both this and the Mutha body oil smell AMAZING too.

STRETCH MARK PRODUCTS // Mustela Stretch Marks CreamMustela Stretch Marks Oil

Mustela is another maternity beauty brand that many people recommended to me. They have a wide range of products that are all budget-friendly and can be shopped on Amazon! So far I’ve been using the Stretch Marks Cream and Stretch Marks Oil on my belly, hips, thighs and boobs. Both are formulated with 100% natural ingredients, free of parabens or any other nasty additives and can help prevent/fade stretch marks.

I tend to use the oil when I know I have a little bit more time to get ready since I’ve found it needs a few minutes to absorb. Even though it says fragrance-free it does have a slight scent, which I personally don’t mind, however I don’t think it’s a scent that everyone would love. In contrast, the Stretch Marks Cream is very much unscented and absorbs faster than the oil–so if those are two factors you’re looking for I’d opt for the cream instead.

POST-PREGNANCY PRODUCTS // Mustela Nursing Comfort Balm | Mustela Stretch Marks Serum

I haven’t tried these two Mustela products yet, but still wanted to share for those of you who are new mommas or in need of a product to fade existing stretch marks. If I end up testing either one I will definitely share my thoughts on my Instagram story!

EVERYDAY BODY MOISTURIZERS // Necessaire The Body LotionKORRES Sea Lavender Body Butter | Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream

All three of these body moisturizers are meant for anyone– not just expectant moms! I was already a fan of Korres Sea Lavender Body Butter and Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream prior to my pregnancy and have continued regularly using both! The Korres body butter is a great everyday all-over cream and has the most amazing light lavender scent. It also absorbs fast and contains primarily all natural ingredients.

If you’re prone to eczema flare ups like me, then I’d definitely encourage having Eucerin’s Eczema Relief Cream in your bodycare arsenal. I like to use this when my skin is extra dry and red. Necessaire The Body Lotion is a recent moisturizer find that I’ve really been enjoying. It’s fragrance-free, goes on super smooth and is packed with vitamins that support the health and natural pH of the skin.

PRE & POST-NATAL BODY MOISTURIZER // Kate McLeod Mama Stone (there are 6 different formulas— all with different purposes!)

The Kate McLeod Mama Stone definitely takes the title of the most unique pregnancy beauty product that I’ve tried. It looks like a solid bar of soap, but I promise it’s actually a moisturizer that you definitely only want to use outside of the bath or shower. To apply all you do is rub it against your skin and the bar “melts” on contact. It’s really cool and I love how it’s a 100% plant-based product that’s completely vegan, hypoallergenic and “clean.” My only complaint about this moisturizer is how fast it goes. When I first got it I was applying it everyday, but now I only use it sparingly because with daily full-body use I doubt it would last more than three weeks. I’ll likely end up using it more once baby boy is here!

Carmindy Beauty Collection QVC

So I’ve been keeping a little beauty secret from you gals… Over the last two months I regularly wore products from a cosmetics brand that I had to keep hush hush… until today! I’m so happy that I now can finally spill all the details about Carmindy Beauty— QVC’s first exclusive makeup brand. You may recognize Carmindy from your TV screen! She’s a world renowned makeup artist best known for her role on TLC’s “What Not To Wear.”

I first got the scoop on Carmindy Beauty at the beginning of the summer. The QVC team reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in testing the line and depending on if I liked the products, potentially partner with them on the launch.

Carmindy Beauty Collection QVC

In the last year I’ve become a big fan of shopping QVC for all things beauty (they always have the best deals!) so of course I said I’d give the line a go. In my early 20s I was semi-addicted to makeup and nothing was more fun to me than playing around with new products. Receiving the full Carmindy Beauty line in the mail definitely brought back some of that familiar excitement!

My makeup philosophy today is much different than when I was younger. I’m more focused on quality over quantity. I’d rather have a small collection of cosmetics that I love and know work for me, rather than a plethora of makeup that I’ll never be able to use and finish. I also like to keep my routine quick and easy. The fewer layers of makeup I have to wear = the better!

I’m excited to share Carmindy with you gals because when I use the products my routine is exactly as I described above: short, simple and stress-free. I love how this line feels on my skin– it’s not too heavy and highlights my features without feeling like a mask. When I wear Carmindy Beauty I feel like my best version of me… If that makes sense? 😛
Every Carmindy Beauty product is cruelty-free and the prices are affordable– especially when you shop one of the line’s three sets. More on these below!

Carmindy Beauty Carmindizing Skin System 4-Piece Collection

+ Carmindy All In Good Prime Universal Primer
+ Carmindy Carmindizing Foundation Shades Available: 8
+ Carmindy Tap On Concealer Shades Available: 8
+
Carmindy Sheer Whisper Powder Shades Available: 2

This 4-piece set is priced at $69.50 and has all that you need to make your skin look flawless without appearing like you have on layers of heavy makeup. The universal primer blends into skin creating the perfect canvas for foundation. What I like most about the Carmindizing Foundation is that a little goes a long way– you can use it like a tinted moisturizer or if needed as a full coverage foundation.

Carmindy Beauty Collection QVC

The formula is sweat resistant, long-lasting and leaves skin with a flattering dewy glow! My favorite product in this set is definitely the concealer. It’s super creamy, easy to blend and the crayon-like packaging is so easy to use on the go. I’ve actually been keeping it in my purse! Once I’ve applied all three of these products, I set all the areas where I used concealer with the Sheer Whisper Powder. The formula is translucent, lightweight and helps my face makeup last all day long.

Carmindy Beauty 5 Minute Face 5-Piece Collection w/ Highlight Brush

+ Carmindy Carmindizing Highlighter
+ Carmindy Into It Eyeliner
+ Carmindy Eye Got You Mascara
+ Carmindy At First Blush
+ Carmindy Universal Love Lipstick

If you like to keep your makeup routine quick and minimal then you need the Carmindy Beauty 5 Minute Face set in your life! So get this– all 5 products in the set [highlighter, eyeliner, mascara, blush and lipstick] come in just one universal flattering shade for $59.50. Have you ever been to a makeup counter or in Sephora and felt completely overwhelmed by all the color options of just one blush? Well Carmindy has done that work for you. The sheer pearlescent highlighter gives skin a healthy glow without too much sheen or sparkle– I like to use it in the corner of my eyes too and under my brow bone!

Carmindy Beauty Collection QVC

The eyeliner is super creamy and I love the espresso color– it makes eyes pop without looking too harsh. I’m OBSESSED with this mascara! The wand is super skinny so you can really grab every single little lash on the top and lower lash lines. The formula doesn’t clump and is water and sweat resistant!

I was really excited that the blush is a pretty sheer coral and a  little goes a LONG way. Just a light swipe gives cheeks a healthy flush of color! The lipstick is another one of my favorites from the line. I prefer lip colors in a simple mauve or rosey pink and the shade of this one is just the perfect combination of the two. I’ve actually been using it as my daily lipstick that I keep in my purse. Love how it brings out the natural color of my lips!

Carmindy Beauty Collection QVC
Carmindy Beauty Collection QVC

Carmindy Beauty Eye Enhancer 3-Piece Kit with Eye Shadow Brush

+ Carmindy Eye Enhancer Eyeshadow
+ Carmindy Into It Eyeliner
+ Carmindy Eye Got You Mascara

The final set in the Carmindy Beauty collection is all about the eyes. The Eye Enhancer kit includes the eyeliner and mascara I mentioned above, plus a 3-shade eyeshadow palette. I rarely ever wear colors outside of the nude family so this has become a go-to product in my routine! The colors blend easily and can be worn alone or together. When doing my everyday makeup look, I like to use the lightest shade on the inner half of my eyelids and the medium shade on the outer half. For just $34.98 you get all three of these products!

Carmindy Beauty Collection QVC
Carmindy Beauty Collection QVC

You can shop every Carmindy Beauty products individually, however I’d definitely recommend going for the sets because you get way more bang for your buck. Together all four products in the Carmindizing Skin System have a value of $129 aka a 46% discount! At this point in my life I’m most focused on finding products that are versatile enough for everyday wear and can be applied quickly and easily, so if you’re like me I have a feeling you’re really going to love this line!

I don’t know where y’all live, but the weather in New York this week was brutal. I’m talking painfullyyyyyy cold. By the time Friday rolled around my skin was all kinds of dry, parched and crusty.

While I do love a good trip to the spa, the last thing I wanted to do this weekend was head out for any type of cosmetic appointment. So what’s a girl to do? Indulge in a little pampering at home, of course! You guys know I love taking care of my skin, but this weekend I really kicked it up a notch with the help of some goodies I found in the Valentine’s Day beauty gift section at Walmart.

5 Easy & Affordable Ways To Pamper Yourself At Home

GIVE YOURSELF A FACIAL. Skip the expensive spa and give yourself a steam facial at home! And nope, I’m not talking about one of those “facials” where you hold a soggy warm washcloth over your face. Get ready to say hello to your new favorite budget beauty tool: the Conair Facial Sauna System. I had so much fun testing this!

Conair Facial Sauna System

All you have to do is fill the vessel with water and within two minutes you’ll have yourself a high-quality steam facial that gently unclogs pores and leaves skin feeling hydrated and soft! There’s even a handy timer so you can customize the length of your facial and an electric brush with two different attachments that you can use for applying your exfoliator and moisturizer. Want to know the price for all of this? Just $24. Yep, it’s true!

Conair Facial Sauna System

TRY ALL THE SHEET MASKS. So I’ve been a BIG mask kick lately, even more so than usual. I think it’s this winter weather. My normal skincare routine just hasn’t been cutting it and my face is just crazyyyy dry and flaky. One of my favorite easy ways to give my skin a little extra love is with a sheet mask.

Affordable Ways To Pamper Yourself At Home

I purchased this pack of 11 sheet masks for just $17 and have been having a blast testing each one. I also love that once you’ve used a sheet mask you can just toss it in the trash and not have to deal with wiping any residue or goop off your face.

PAMPER YOUR LIPS. I dunno about you guys, but I always forget about my lips. Lately I feel like every time I put on my lip balm it’s to no avail. My lips are still crusty and cracked despite the fact I feel like I’m moisturizing them 500+ times a day.

Burts Bees Conditioning Lip Scrub
Burts Bees Conditioning Lip Scrub

Needless to say my pout could use some extra TLC, which is why I came up with a quick and easy winter lipcare routine. Twice a week after steaming my face I exfoliate my lips with this Burt’s Bees conditioning lip scrub. I just apply it with my fingers and gently scrub away any flaky pieces. I’ve tried a bunch of lip scrubs over the years, but I LOVE this one because it’s 100% natural and the crystals aren’t too chunky. After exfoliating I’ll smother my lips with this Aquaphor lip treatment.

Neutrogena Collagen Kiss Collagen Infused Lip Mask
Neutrogena Collagen Kiss Collagen Infused Lip Mask

On days when I reallyyyyy wanna take my lip routine up a notch, I’ll use a lip mask. YES lip masks exist! Who knew, right? I was skeptical when I first saw these collagen infused lip masks, but curiosity got the best of me so I went ahead and ordered a pack of two. Y’all these are so cool! It’s basically like a sheet mask for the lips. All you have to do is place it over your mouth, let it soak for 10-15 minutes and peel it away for a smooth moisturized pout!

BATH BOMBS. I forgot how fun these are! Also is there anything better on a chilly night than a long warm soak in the tub? When I’ve had a really long day I love to unwind by taking a bath. These pink bath fizzies smell AMAZING and are enriched with vitamin E to moisturize the skin. You can get a bag of 8 for just $7!

Neutrogena Collagen Kiss Collagen Infused Lip Mask

DRUGSTORE SKINCARE ADD-ONS. You guys know that I’m a big fan of Olay moisturizers (I’m obsessed with this one!) but recently I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and have been using this hydrating mist and clay mask stick.

Affordable Ways To Pamper Yourself At Home

Let’s talk about the mist first. This is a life saver for parched skin, especially on days when I’m wearing makeup! A spritz of this mist instantly wakes up the face (thanks to vitamin C & bergamot!) leaving skin looking bright and makeup looking refreshed. It’s a really nice pick-me-up to keep in your purse or carry-on bag too!

Olay Mist Ultimate Hydration Essence
Olay Clay Face Mask Stick

If sheet masks aren’t your thing, then you’re going to love this Olay clay stick mask. It’s super easy to apply and you don’t even need to use your fingers! I bought the Fresh Reset mask, which is formulated with pink mineral complex & Kaolin clay to micro-polish away clogging surface cells and fresh dull skin. PS there’s a charcoal version of this mask too!

CeraVe Eye Repair Cream

The last product I want to call out to you guys is this CeraVe eye repair cream. I grew up using CeraVe moisturizers and body lotions, but this is the first time I’ve ever tried anything exclusively for the eye area. Lemme tell you: I LOVE this stuff! This cream is super hydrating and works to diminish dark circles and puffiness. The best part is it’s just $10!

Well that was fun! I haven’t indulged in a pamper sesh like this in a longgggg time, but now I’m thinking I might have to make it a regular weekend ritual. 😛

Big thank you to Walmart for sponsoring this post!

I'll be honest. I'm not a big makeup girl. It's funny because I used to be obsessed with cosmetics and during my college years. I would obsessively follow all the new MAC collections and would spend hours watching YouTube tutorials. That passion grew to the point where I was inspired to start my own channel (anyone remember my YouTube beauty days???) and Katie's Bliss :)

It's not that I no longer like makeup. I enjoy trying new products and the overall process of putting it on, but my philosophy has definitely changed. In the past it gave me such a rush having a huge variety of products. I was always adding to my makeup collection (because a neon pink eyeshadow is totally necessary...) and I regularly would play around with different looks.

I’ll be honest. I’m not a big makeup girl. It’s funny because I used to be obsessed with cosmetics and during my college years. I would obsessively follow all the new MAC collections and would spend hours watching YouTube tutorials. That passion grew to the point where I was inspired to start my own channel (anyone remember my YouTube beauty days???) and Katie’s Bliss 🙂

It’s not that I no longer like makeup. I enjoy trying new products and the overall process of putting it on, but my philosophy has definitely changed. In the past it gave me such a rush having a huge variety of products. I was always adding to my makeup collection (because a neon pink eyeshadow is totally necessary…) and I regularly would play around with different looks.

Once I moved to New York that mindset changed. Not only did I have to find a way to store my aggressively large amount of makeup in a small space, but I was also working full time and on an entry-level PR salary. I had to change my shopping habits and filming YouTube tutorials had to take a back seat. Eventually the allure of makeup began to fade. Instead of a desire to constantly buy new things that I would only use a few times, I started focusing on figuring out the products that truly worked best for me.

It’s been an evolution for sure and it’s crazy to look back at the amount of makeup I used to own and compare it to what I have today. The products listed here are what I use every single day and rarely do I stray from this routine. Nowadays I’m all about quality over quantity and you can trust me that these have all been heavily tested. I used to always try and force myself to try new things, but now I’d rather just stick to what I like 🙂 Ya feel me?

MAKEUP REMOVAL PRODUCTS

1. Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water | Awesome makeup remover that’s great at tackling stubborn eye makeup and is gentle on the skin and lashes!

2. dermalogica precleanse balm | This stuff is great for when you really want a deep cleanse while removing makeup! It comes with a textured rubber mitt you can wear over your hand to massage the balm into your skin.

PRIMER

18. Estee Lauder The Smoother Universal Perfecting Primer | This is one of the few primers I’ve tried that hasn’t broken me out. It’s clear, lightweight and diffuses the look of any imperfections– basically it helps create a smooth canvas for applying foundation and the rest of your face makeup.

FOUNDATION

12. La Mer The Luminous Lifting Cushion Foundation in Petal 21 | Ever since I discovered this foundation it’s the only one I’ll use and 100% my holy grail. For years I searched for a lightweight  foundation with medium coverage that I could wear all day without feeling like I had product painted all over my face. This foundation honestly leaves my skin looking AND feeling flawless. I don’t even notice it once I have it on because it’s so light and gentle. The liquid formula is non-drying, won’t irritate the skin and is filled with all those good ingredients found in La Mer skincare products. It’s worth the money!!!

13. erborian CC Creme | I love wearing this cc cream, especially during the summer! It doesn’t offer a lot of coverage, but the formula does color correct uneven tones, reduce redness and leave skin looking radiant all with SPF25. It’s a great face product to wear when you’re going for that “no makeup” look.

CONCEALER

6. Clinique Beyond Perfecting Super Concealer in Moderately Fair | This is an awesome build-able concealer. You can wear as little or as much as you want depending on how much coverage you need. I primarily use this to cover any little red spots and then under my eyes for dark circle. I’ll apply a small amount to the tip of BeautyBlender sponge and then lightly dab+blend the product on to any problem areas.

BLUSH

3. it Bye Bye Pores Blush in Sweet Cheeks | Prettiest shimmery peach blush! You only need to smallest swipe for natural flush of color.

4. NARS Blush in Orgasm | One of my all-time favorite blushes for 10+ years now! It’s the perfect combination of peachy pink with the slightest amount of shimmer. This is a blush you can wear everyday for any occasion!

5. bareminerals Gen Nude Powder Blush in Call My Blush | This is my favorite light rosy pink blush and the one I wear most often. I feel like it perfectly matches the natural flush or skin tone and love how it last al day without fading.

BRONZER

34. Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops | If I’m feeling like I want a little extra glow, I’ll mix a drop or two of these into a tinted moisturizer or cc cream. These drops give the face a really pretty luminous boost of color, while also infusing skin with antioxidants. If you’re sensitive to self tanning products this is a good one to try because it’s vegan and totally free of essential oils, fragrance, silicone, and gluten.

35. Urban Decay Beached Bronzer in Sun-Kissed | Amazing powder bronzer and the only one I’ve used over the last few months. It’s super soft, easy to blend, has a matte finish and lasts all day!

HIGHLIGHTER

14. Burberry Fresh Glow Highlighter in Rose Gold | Prettiest everyday highlighter that you can use on the cheeks, nose, eyes– pretty much anywhere! It’s definitely a splurge, but will last forever. I’ve had it for over six months and feel like it still looks brand new.

15. Laura Geller Baked Illuminator in Gilded Honey | My go-to highlighter in the summer months or when I’m on a tropical vacation. This gives the cheeks the most gorgeous golden glow! I even will use it on my eyes too.

BROWS

10. NARS Brow Perfector | Super precise brow pencil that won’t smudge and is available in a wide range of colors. I love that it’s retractable so you don’t have to worry about sharpening.

11. Anastasia Brow Wiz in Taupe | I’ve used this brow pencil since high school! Not much to say other than it looks very natural and matches the color of my brows perfectly.

EYES

19. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Eye Pencil | Best blendable eyeliners and so creamy! I’m awful at applying liner in a precise line, so I usually will smudge this on my top lash line and then blend it out with a eyeshadow brush for a smokey effect.

20. Cool NARS Velvet Shadow Stick in Goddess | If you’re looking for a one step shadow routine then look no further than these shadow sticks. All you have to do is swipe it on and you’re done! No brushes involved and the formula won’t crease. These are also great for using as a primer underneath power shadows.

21. Elizabeth Arden Eyeshadow Trio in Not So Nude 09 | One of my favorite neutral shadow palettes. You can create an awesome dark smokey eye with all three colors or just use the one middle shade for an everyday-appropriate shimmer.

22. NARS Eye Shadow Quad in Mojave | I’m pretty confident that if I was only allowed to use one eyeshadow quad for the rest of my life that I’d be perfectly fine with this one. It has four gorgeous neutral colors that can be used to achieve a range looks for daytime or evening. Each color is pigmented enough to be beautifully worn alone or combined together to create a look that’s more dramatic. I love that the finishes of each shadow are different: two are shimmery, one matte and one powder with pearl sheen.

23. NARS Pro-Prime Eyeshadow Base | Best translucent shadow base! It goes on super creamy and white, but quickly blends clear. Applying this before eyeshadow will prevent colors from creasing and fading throughout the day.

MASCARA

16. Elizabeth Arden Grand Entrance Mascara | I’m obsessed with the skinny wand on this mascara. It’s incredible for getting those short hard to reach lashes on the lower lid. The formula is super smooth and won’t clump or flake!

17. Benefit BAD gal Bigger Badder Volumizing Mascara | This is the only mascara I’ve been using the last 2-3 months. I does everything a mascara should giving lashes length and major volume. I can wear it all day and never have I noticed any flaking or clumping. It’s AWESOME.

LIPS

24. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils | I’m not big on wearing lip products in general, but when I do it’s usually a NARS lip pencil. These are easy to apply and perfect if you have smaller lips like me. I love the matte finish (looks great in photos) and the pigmentation is incredible and lasts for hours. The formula is also super creamy and won’t dry out your lips!

25. Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colors | One of the most hydrating lip products I’ve ever used! These look and wear like a traditional lipstick, but the formula is much closer to a balm. I also can’t get enough of the super pigmented colors and matte finish. So long-lasting!

26. Elizabeth Arden Plump Up Lip Liners | These are the creamiest lip liners I’ve used! I find these really easy to apply and blend with my lipsticks.

27. Clinique Quickliner For Lips | No sharpening required! Love how these lip liners are twistable (great for on-the-go) and the pencil is super skinny making application easy for thin-lipped gals like me 🙂

SETTING POWDER & SPRAY

7. Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Setting Powder | This setting powder is a recent discover that I’m loving! It’s completely translucent, waterproof and it lasts for 24 hours. This is an awesome product to have in your travel makeup bag or if you’re going to be out in warm weather. I also love that it has a matte finish!

8. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Medium | This has been one of my favorite setting powders for close to ten years. Since I like to use as minimal face makeup as possible, I really only will apply this lightly over the areas of my face that I’m wearing concealer like my nose, chin and under eyes. It’s pigmented, yet super lightweight so it doesn’t ever feel heavy or cake-y.

9. Lancome Fit It Forget It Setting Spray | My go-to setting spray! I also use this to lightly dampen my BeautyBlender before applying my concealer and blending my foundation.

BRUSHES & TOOLS

30. BeautyBlender Sponge | My life changed once I discovered this sponge. For years I had been applying my foundation with my fingers and blending it with a brush, only to be left worrying about streaks and lines. I’ve now ditched all my foundation brushes in favor of this sponge to blend in my foundation and also apply concealer. It’s amazing at giving skin that flawless airbrushed look– just remember to lightly dampen it first with a beauty spray or water before using!

31. Shiseido Eye Lash Curler | I’ve tried a number of lash curlers over the years and feel like this is the only one that really grabs on to every single lash and gives a long-lasting curl.

30-33. MAC Brushes | No joke I’ve had my MAC brushes since HIGH SCHOOL. That’s 10+ years! Seriously these are the best you can get and such a worthwhile investment. I use the 239 and 217 brushes for eyeshadow, the 109 brush for bronzer and the 116 brush for blush.

In the last year I stepped up my haircare and styling game in a few big ways. 1) I got extensions for the first time. I know I know I know... I owe you guys a post on this topic and I promise it's coming! I'm going to try my best to get that up sometime in February. 2) I stepped out of my 4+ year comfort zone of only styling my hair in wavy curls using a 1 inch curling iron. 3) I finally learned how to do a top knot and taught myself a few different braids. 4) I washed my hair no more than twice a week. 5) I stopped heat styling my hair on a daily basis.

I’m going to try my best to get that up sometime in February.

Blonde Hair Extensions
Side Dutch Braid

I’ll be totally honest. I don’t enjoy taking care of my hair or styling it. The only exception to this is braiding. Since getting extensions I’ve really fallen in love with braiding. Other than that, anything I do that’s hair-related is solely because I have to, not because I find it relaxing or fun. I’m not particularly passionate about trying new haircare products in the way I am with skincare, but I do care deeply about how my hair looks and feel like it’s a big part of who I am (visually at least…) If that makes sense?

‘Less is more’ is my mentally with haircare. The less products, tools, washes, heat styling– THE BETTER. You’ll see in my mini reviews below that I really only use a small handful of brands. Once I find haircare products I love, I tend to stick with them and usually one bottle of product will last me for months because of how infrequently I try to wash and style my hair.

1. Alterna Caviar Working Hair Spray | This is a very good medium hold hair spray. It keeps top knots, braids and waves in place without leaving your hair feeling nasty or crunchy.

2. Aveda texture tonic | I use this spray when I’m going for loose, naturally undone waves. I’ll curl my hair like normal, but instead of finishing with hairspray, I’ll pull the curls out with fingers and then spray this for texture. It gives strands that ‘piecey’ boho effect. I used it on my hair in this post here!

3. Aveda shampure Dry Shampoo | I’m not a big fan of dry shampoo (I just hate the feeling of product in my hair) but if I do use it, this is the one I like. It’s non-aerosol and the product comes out more as a really light mist so you really can control how much you’re using on your hair. The formula uses 99% natural ingredients, absorbs oil and has a really nice light scent (not too overpowering.)

4. Aveda smooth infusion style-prep smoother | This is my go-to leave in smoothing cream after washing my hair. It defends hair against humidity and the elements, so it’s great especially if your hair acts like it has a mind of it’s own 😛 I like to apply about a nickel-sized drop through my mane to calm frizz and tame my natural waves as my hair air dries.

5. Kerastase Nectar Thermique Blow Dry Cream | Whenever I know I’m going to be using some serious heat on my hair post-showering, this is the blow dry cream I use. It’s actually a multi-functional product and does a number of great things for your hair like protect it from heat, nourish the hair fiber similar to a treatment, smooth frizz and add shine.

6. Misel Boar Bristle Hair Brush | I purchased this boar bristle brush specifically for help with detangling. To maintain the health and strength of your hair you have to be gentle when brushing, especially when you have extensions. I love having extensions, but more hair = more potential knots and tangles. This brush was really inexpensive, does a great job detangling stubborn knots and helps prevent breakage.

7. Fromm 1907 Hot Paddle Brush | I don’t have a lot of patience when it comes to blow drying my own hair and I most days I let me hair air dry, but when I do give myself a blow out this is the brush I always use. The paddle is lined with aluminum to retain heat and smooth hair similar to if you were using a flat iron. I love how this brush helps cut down blow drying time and just leaves my hair feeling really silky and voluminous.

8. Conair 1 Inch Travel Curling IronI originally purchased this inexpensive curling iron to use when I travel, but I ended up loving it so much that I regularly reach for it at home. It’s lightweight, dual voltage (so you can use in any country) and the ceramic barrel helps to reduce frizz.

9. MiroPure 1 1/2 Inch Curling Iron | For only $34 this is an awesome curling iron! After getting my extensions, I felt like my 1 inch iron was giving my hair a skinny sausage curl effect so I decided to try one with a larger barrel and hello loose natural waves! This one handles so well and heats up in less than a minute. I love the LCD panel where you can select the exact heat you want in 20 degree increments. The ceramic barrel also helps reduce frizz and static!

10. Alterna Caviar Repair Multi-Vitamin Heat Protection Spray | This heat protectant not only protects your hair when using hot tools, but it also helps repair damage and seal the surface of hair. After applying the spray to your stands, you can use heat up to 450 degrees! I like this spray because it doesn’t leave my hair feeling “wet” after I use it and there’s no wait time between applying it and getting to work with my curling iron.

11. Aveda shampure Conditioner | One of my favorite Aveda conditioners! The formula is 98% natural, silicone-free and leaves hair feeling weightless and nourished. Like all Aveda products it also smells incredible!

12. Pantene Repair & Protect Shampoo & Conditioner | Over the last year I’ve really fallen back in love with Pantene products, especially since getting extensions. Not only is my hair longer when I have them in, but it’s soooo much thicker. When I first got them and would go to wash my hair, I found that a lot of conditioners I’d previously used were not up to the job of moisturizing and detangling my new mane. I’d get out of the shower and my hair would just be a matted mess. When I participated in the Pantene 14-Day challenge last year I tested this shampoo & conditioner combo and fell in love with the lather! The conditioner actually detangles my hair and leaves it feeling superrrrr silky.

13. Aveda blue malva Shampoo | The best shampoo for blondes with color-treated hair! My hair has a tendency to get brassy, especially if it’s been 4+ weeks since I’ve had my highlights done. I only wash my hair 1-2x per week, so I really need a shampoo that can help neutralize those nasty orange tones and amplify between my color appointments. It smells amazing too!

14. artnaturals Argan oil | This is pure Moroccan organic argan oil, plain and simple. If you’re looking for a multi-use product this is great because you can use it on your hair AND skin. Argan oil has a range of benefits, but when applied to hair it will moisturize, reduce frizz and add healthy shine to your strands. I’ll just take a few drops in my hands and then run my fingers through my damp hair after showering as a leave-in treatment. Sometimes I even use it in place of a body lotion!

15. Conair Travel Dryer | You may remember I posted about this travel dryer on Instagram before the holidays! It’s compact, incredibly affordable and has dual voltage so you don’t have to worry about frying it when you plug it into an outlet in a foreign country.

16. T3 Cura Luxe Professional Ionic Hair Dryer | I try to let my hair air dry as often as possible, but when I do blow dry it this is the dryer I always use at home. It’s powerful, lightweight and has an sensor that will automatically shut off the dryer once you set it down/take your hand off the handle. If you’re like me and always have to put your dryer down to readjust how you’re holding your brush, this feature is amazing because I don’t have to constantly be turning my dryer on and off.

I'm back and so pumped to share with ya'll the second installment in my 'Best of Beauty' series, where I'm revealing all my tried-and-true bath, skin, cosmetic and hair products. Today's post is all about SKINCARE, which happens to be my favorite niche in the beauty-sphere. If someone put a curse on me where I could only purchase products from one beauty aisle for the rest of my life, I'd 100% choose skincare. I can go days without wearing makeup or doing my hair, but when it comes to taking care of the skin on my face? That's a part of my daily routine I will never skip.

I’m back and so pumped to share with ya’ll the second installment in my ‘Best of Beauty’ series, where I’m revealing all my tried-and-true bath, skin, cosmetic and hair products. Today’s post is all about SKINCARE, which happens to be my favorite niche in the beauty-sphere. If someone put a curse on me where I could only purchase products from one beauty aisle for the rest of my life, I’d 100% choose skincare. I can go days without wearing makeup or doing my hair, but when it comes to taking care of the skin on my face? That’s a part of my daily routine I will never skip.

I want to say it was around age 21 when I really started getting passionate about skincare. I had just graduated, moved to New York and I was stressed. You gals know my history with eczema (I’ve had it since childhood) and while I’d previously had red itchy flare ups on my body, it wasn’t until my early 20s that I started getting them on my face. It was awful and needless to say a BIG wake up call that I needed to start paying more attention to my skin and the products I was using. PS if you wanna see a what a flare up looks like, I included a photo of one of my worst ones in this post. #yikes

Luckily I’ve now found a great prescription cream that I use when I have eczema flare up (which are thankfully now few and far between,) but during that time when I was having bad skin struggles I discovered just how much I love trying new products in the skincare aisle. Serums, moisturizers, toners, eye creams, masks– I’m alllllll for ’em!

If I had to describe my skin I’d say I’m prone to dryness. I don’t get oily and if I do get a pimple, it’s always a result of a product that doesn’t agree with me, normally a serum or serum-based foundation. While dealing with my eczema has certainly sucked at times, I’m very grateful to have never had acne or any serious issues with blemishes.

Ah this intro got a little long, but what can I say? I love talking about skin 😛 Okay I’ll stop now before I start sounds creepy… Mini reviews of all my favorite products can be found below!

1. Conair True Glow Sonic Facial Brush | Cleansing is the first step in any skincare routine and this electric facial brush is the bomb! I actually posted about it a few times on Instagram and everything I said there still rings true! On days when I’ve worn a full face of makeup or if I’m feeling like I could use a little extra exfoliation, this brush is my go-to. I just apply a cleanser to the brush head and go to town using the lowest setting (I do this out of caution since my skin is sensitive/prone to redness.) You can even use it in the shower too!

2. Clinique Liquid Facial Soap | Gentlest liquid cleanser ever. While it’s suitable for all skin types, I’ve found it’s amazing for dryness and won’t leave your skin feeling “stripped” if that makes sense? I also very much appreciate a cleanser with a pump! It makes my evening routine incredibly easy because I just pump out a few drop on to the head of my facial brush or in the palm of my hand.

3. Olay Daily Facials Hydrating Cleansing Cloths | Here’s another product that received it’s own review because I loved it so much. If you’re looking for a way to cut down time in you’re routine then these are for you. Basically these cloths combine makeup removal, cleansing and exfoliating all into one step. Since the cleanser is already incorporated into the cloth, all you have to do is add a little bit of warm and boom, you’re ready to do you’re own at home facial. I love using these on days when I don’t have a lot of time or when I’m traveling.

4.  Arcona Triad Toner Pads | This is another great on-the-go product that combines a few steps of my skincare routine into one! I continually reach for these pads to 1) remove stubborn makeup 2) tone my skin 3) hydrate and refresh. If you don’t have a lot of time to do a deep cleansing routine, these are a great option. On days when I’m only wearing a little concealer, I’ll use these so I don’t have to waste a full makeup wipe. The pads are textured too so I always feel like I’m giving my skin a treat when I use one!

5. Tula Pro-Glycolic pH Resurfacing Gel | For YEARS I was scared of using toners because I thought they were bad for dry skin types. Totally wrong. There are a lot of great alcohol-free toners and this one from Tula has become a staple in my routine! It’s formulated with probiotics, glycolic acid, and beetroot extract to gently exfoliate the skin and is safe for all skin types. I apply with a cotton ball after cleansing and it leaves my skin feeling smooth and hydrated. Feel free to use code KATIESBLISS for 20% off your Tula order 🙂

6. SK-II Facial Treatment Essence | I was really skeptical about the claims of this essence prior to using it, but wow did it prove me wrong! This is one of the rare products that truly will give you results if you use it consistently. For me it was the diminished appearance of fine lines between my eyebrows and on my forehead. Check out this post for a full review!

7. goop by Juice Beauty Enriching Face Oil | This face oil is definitely one of the more decadent products in my arsenal. I use it more as a special treat for my skin, versus an every day serum. It’s 100% organic (as you’d expect from a Gwenyth Paltrow-backed product) and can be used on it’s own (so yep, you can skip moisturizer) or layered underneath your face cream (just give it time to absorb!) I like to use it in my evening routine so in the morning I wake up with super hydrated glowy skin 🙂

8. SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator | One of my holy grail serums! After cleansing and toning, I apply a few drops of this all over my face and neck. This serum does multiple things: it diminishes the appearance of lines, gently exfoliates by breaking down dead skin cells, refines skin texture, balances moisture levels and reinforces overall skin health.

9. SkinCeuticals Eye Balm | If you aren’t using an eye cream, I BEG you to start now. The eye area is so delicate and needs it’s own product to prevent signs of aging. I’ve regularly used an eye cream 2x daily since I was about 20 and I already can tell that it’s paying off for me. While I’ve started to notice fine lines in my forehead (there was no preventing that thanks to my lifelong habit of scrunching my face when I concentrate) I have yet to notice any drooping or lines around or under my eyes. This anti-aging eye cream is one of my favorites! It’s ultra creamy, boosts collagen production, reduces puffiness and works to leave the skin around your eyes looking more youthful and bright.

10. La Mer The Eye Concentrate | If you want to take eye area care to the next level then you need the La Mer eye concentrate. La Mer products are an investment, but if you’re going to spend on one area of your beauty routine it should be for your skin and these products are truly the best money can buy. This eye cream will noticeably diminish the appearance of dark circles and soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

11. Olay Regernerist Whip Moisturizer | I don’t use a lot of drugstore skincare products, but when I do it’s likely something from Olay. I’m a big fan of the Olay Regenerist line and was so thrilled when a fragrance-free version of the cult-favorite Regenerist moisturizer launched late last year. I don’t mind scented products, but if the option is there I always will go for fragrance free. This one is great for wearing under makeup! It has a matte finish so you can skip using a primer. For more info you can read my review here.

12. Tula Aqua Infusion Oil-Free Gel Cream | This is one my favorite morning moisturizers because it’s incredibly lightweight and dewy, yet still super hydrating and great for wearing under makeup. The formula is oil-free and contains ingredients to reduce redness and irritation, so it’s a great product especially for sensitive skin types. Remember to use code KATIESBLISS for 20% off your Tula order 🙂

13. Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Hydrating Gel | This is the moisturizer I turn to first whenever my skin decides not the behave. I use it a lot during the winter when I feel like my skin can’t escape the elements. It’s hard to describe, but when I use it I feel like I’m wearing a protective hydrating matte veil. Even if I have an eczema patch or I’m suffering from extreme dryness, I can trust this moisturizer to work in tandem with my prescription cream to heal my skin and infuse with TONS of moisture and vitamins.

14. La Mer Moisturizing Cream | Another one of my favorite La Mer products! It’s the thickest most decadent moisturizer I’ve ever used and a product I reserve for my evening routine. And when I say thick, I mean THICK. I warm a small amount in my fingertips first to activate the MiracleBroth (La Mer’s signature ingredient) and then I gently pat it on to my face. If you’re serious about anti-aging, this is one of the best face creams you can use!

15. SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore Cream | If you’re not ready to spend on La Mer or you’re looking for a slightly less thick moisturizer that you can use both morning and night, then I highly recommend this cream. It’s packed full of anti-aging benefits and super moisturizing

16. Drunk Elephant Lippe Balm | Signs of aging can appear at the mouth too, so make sure you’re giving your lips some love! This isn’t just your average lip balm. The formula is enriched with peptides and sea fern algae, to help plump and better define the lip line. It’s also full of antioxidant-rich green tea leaf and vitamin C that work to neutralize free radicals and fight the environmental elements that can age the lips. I used this only as lip balm, but it actually can be used on the eye area too!

17. Tula Kefir Ultimate Recovery Mask | Whenever my skin is feeling parched or like it could use a dose of hydration, I turn to this mask. It’s so rich and creamy, plus it’s simple to put on and not messy like some other masks. I like to use it for 10 minutes 2-3x a week before hopping in the shower. I love the pump applicator too! Remember to use code KATIESBLISS for 20% off your Tula order 🙂

18. Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Hydra-Gel Eye Patches | When I’m in the mood to pamper myself or just wanna give my eye area a little extra love, I immediately reach for these gel eye patches. They’re super easy to use and leave the skin under my eyes looking bright and hydrated. The effect and feeling is similar to putting fresh cucumber over your eyes at a spa!

19. SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense SPF 50 Sunscreen | I never really paid attention to facial sunscreens until I tried this one. It just blows all others suncare products for the face out of the water. I won’t go on a warm weather vacation without it! For starters, it lasts all day, even if you’re in and out of the water. On top of that, it dries matte and has a slight tint removing the need for foundation or tinted moisturizer.

Whew! That was a longgggg one, but I really hope you enjoyed hearing all about my skincare loves 🙂 If you have any questions don’t hesitate to give me a shout. I’ll be back next week chatting HAIR! xo
