These easy DIY natural bath bombs smell amazing and with leave the skin feeling soft and hydrated. I primarily made these for my toddler so the recipe is kid-safe and uses all organic ingredients! It’s also incredibly simple. If I’d known how easy bath bombs are to make, I probably would’ve given this a try much sooner! Ingredients: 1 Cup + 1 Tsp. Baking Soda 3/4 Cup Citric Acid 2 Tbsp.

It’s also incredibly simple. If I’d known how easy bath bombs are to make, I probably would’ve given this a try much sooner!

Katies Bliss Easy DIY Natural Bath Bombs

Ingredients:

1 Cup + 1 Tsp. Baking Soda
3/4 Cup Citric Acid
2 Tbsp. Bentonite Clay
3 Tbsp. Jojoba Oil
1 Tbsp. Coconut Oil (Melted)
1 Tbsp. Beet Powder
10 Drops Essential Oil/s of your choice (I used this kid-safe skin soother blend)
spray bottle with water
Round Molds (I bought a set of 3 sizes and used the 1.8in molds)

Instructions:

In a large bowl mix the dry ingredients: 1 cup baking soda with the citric acid, bentonite clay and beet powder.

In a smaller bowl add liquid ingredients: jojoba oil, coconut oil, and essential oil, mixing well. Add 1 tsp. baking soda to your liquid mixture and continue mixing until well combined.

Add the liquid mixture to the large bowl of dry ingredients.

Mix with a spoon or your hands until combined, rubbing mixture with your hands until colors and scent are consistent throughout.

With a spray bottle filled with water, spray the mixture 4-5 times, then continue mixing and rubbing between your hands.

Continue to repeat this process of spraying and mixing 4-5 times until consistency is similar to wet sand.

Tightly pack mixture into molds. Add more as necessary, continuing to press until bath bomb cannot be packed any tighter.

Immediately remove from mold and let dry on baking sheet with tin foil/parchment for at least 24 hours.

Verdict:

Nate LOVES these bath bombs. Using the 1.8 inch molds was definitely the right call. I felt like the bombs were the perfect size for a kiddo’s bath and didn’t overpower the water or leave him smelling like he was dunked in essential oils.

Katies Bliss Easy DIY Natural Bath Bombs

ALSO! The beet powder did not stain the tub or his skin. Even though I’d seen multiple bath bomb recipes where it had been used as natural coloring, I was still slightly worried, but thankfully it wasn’t an issue at all.

It's been a minute since I last refreshed my makeup drawer and I figured since I'm always at Target, I might as well pop down the beauty aisle and see what's new. I'm a creature of habit when it comes to my makeup (especially face products) but I'm a little more adventurous when it comes to my lips, nails and eyes-- especially at the holidays. I noticed lots of jewel tones like burgundy, cobalt, emerald green and violet as I was browsing. Keep on scrollin' for a closer look at everything I scooped up!

Essie Expressie Quick-Dry Nail Polish in Misfit Right In

I haven’t regularly worn nail polish in months (I don’t have the patience to wait for it to dry,)  but I noticed essie came out with a new line of quick dry polishes so I figured why not give one a try. Y’all, my nails dried in less than two minutes! I did two coats, but think I would’ve even been fine with one. The formula went on so smooth and the angled brush made application a breeze. Time is precious these days and products that help me save it are like GOLD. I bought the shade “misfit right in” — it’s the prettiest deep shimmery reddish bronze and perfect for this time of year.

Have you ever tried a colored mascara? I think the last time I used one was probably in middle or high school, but I was feeling adventurous and decided to test out L’Oréal’s Voluminous Original mascara in deep green and deep burgundy. So far I’ve been using the deep green and love it paired with jewel tone shadows. I’ve also really been liking these eyeliner and brow pencil!

Let’s talk lips! If you’re looking for a long-wearing statement lip shade that will look great in holiday pictures and won’t transfer when you’re eating or smooching your loved ones, then you need this combo: Maybelline Super Stay Ink CrayonNYX Lip Lingerie XXL Liquid Lipstick. Both can be worn alone, but I actually like them layered. I apply the crayon first as a base and then add a coat of liquid lipstick— basically to seal in the look and prevent transfer. Both formulas dry with a matte finish, but the liquid lipstick is  incredibly long-lasting and actually accentuates the natural shape of your lips. It comes in 24 shades and can last up to 16 hours!

Oh hey friends! The last few weeks have been c r a z y as we gear up for our big move from New Jersey to Florida. I’ve spent a lot of time going through all my clothing and beauty items trying to figure out what makes sense to donate and then organizing all the things I plan to keep. Let’s just say the employees at my local Target have become very familiar with my face given how often I’ve stopped in to buy storage bins and boxes.

Speaking of Target! I’ve been using a new  hair care line that’s available only at Target stores: Native Hair Care. Have y’all ever heard of Native? You’ve probably seen Native’s deodorants (aluminum and paraben free!!) Native is a  beauty brand known for making amazing clean personal care products and now excitingly, hair! I love the brand motto: Safe. Simple. Effective.

Katies Bliss Native Haircare Collection Review

In the last two years, I’ve made a conscious effort to ditch many of the chemical and fragrance-heavy beauty products I had been using in favor of natural ones. All Native products are thoughtfully made with just 10  ingredients or less and free of sulfates, parabens, silicones and dyes. Another aspect I love? The LABELS! If you take a look at the back of any Native product you’ll find an easy-to-read list of REAL ingredients so you know exactly what you are putting on your hair.

Katies Bliss Native Haircare Collection Review

Native’s new hair care line includes three separate collections– Almond & Shea Strengthening, Cucumber & Mint Volumizing, Coconut & Vanilla Moisturizing– that each address a key hair concern thanks to high quality, natural ingredients. Since I’m always wearing my hair pulled back I need all the breakage protection I can get so I was immediately drawn to Native’s Almond & Shea strengthening hair mask, shampoo and conditioner.

Katies Bliss Native Haircare Collection Review

The SMELL! Right away I could not get over the yummy, yet still light scent of these products. I’ve been using the hair mask twice a week before showering. All you have to do is put it on for three to five minutes and then wash and condition as normal. It’s an easy way to give your hair a dose of moisture and repair dry ends without a huge time commitment.

I love the Shea & Almond shampoo and conditioner as well. The shampoo has a great lather and leaves my hair feeling cleansed and nourished. I also really like how the conditioner detangles and leaves my hair feeling refreshed and weightless.

Katies Bliss Native Haircare Collection Review

If you’re looking to add some natural products to your hair care routine– Native is a great brand to start with. The line is affordable (all products retail under $10) and the simple, easily-recognizable ingredients make the products approachable for everyone– not just beauty addicts like myself 😛 You can order Native online at Target.com or shop it in store on your next Target run!

As a new mom, taking time for "self-care" is a total luxury. Some days my hands are so full with Nate that I'm lucky if I'm able to brush my hair and wash up before noon. My beauty routine was an everyday priority before I become a mom. Now that things have shifted, I'm working on minimizing the steps it takes me to get ready and focusing on the health of my hair, skin and nails to avoid constant upkeep.

Pantene Nutrient Blends Review

I recently had a conversation with my mom and grandma where they reminded me that despite my new responsibilities as a mother, it was still important for me to have some “me” time. They told me that having a baby didn’t mean I had to give up all of the things I typically did to feel my best self. That’s always easier said than done of course, but I agreed they had a point. While I won’t be hitting the salon monthly or rocking extensions again anytime soon, I still plan to get my hair colored and haven’t been making time at home to care for my locks.

Pantene Nutrient Blends Review

When it comes to my hair “self-care,” I’ve stopped using hot tools on a daily basis and instead opted for heat-less styles like braids and buns. I’ve also been washing my hair with Pantene’s Illuminating Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner in hopes of maintaining the growth and shine I was blessed with during pregnancy. I love this haircare system because it not only smells amazing, but it’s formulated with biotin to strengthen hair and make it look more radiant. It’s also color-safe and free of parabens, dyes and mineral oil. Thanks to this shampoo and conditioner I can go longer in between color appointments, which means more time at home with Nate!

Let's talk body care! Prior to my pregnancy I was never that picky with body lotions. Pretty much my only criteria was that a product had to be super moisturizing as I've always struggled with dry skin. After I found out I was pregnant I started paying more attention to ingredients and decided to ditch any fragrance-filled lotions in favor of products with cleaner, non-toxic ingredients. Then once my bump started making an appearance back in March, I added a few oils and balms to my routine to help keep any potential stretch marks at bay.

BODY MOISTURIZERS  // Mutha Body OilMutha Body Butter

When I mentioned on Instagram that I was looking for stretch mark cream recommendations, Mutha products came highly recommended! So far I’ve tried the body oil and body butter and really love both! I’ve primarily been using the body oil solely on my belly, hips, thighs and boobs to prevent stretch marks. It’s formulated with 100% organic botanical oils, packed with vitamins, absorbs fast, helps prevent fine lines and is safe for sensitive skin types.

The body butter is SO decadent and thick. To apply I take a glob in the palm of my hands and massage it– basically warming it up so the consistency turns more lotion-like. I’ll use this on dry days when I feel my skin could use some an extra hydrating treat– especially my elbows and knees! The ingredients are also 100% natural and formulated to help fade and prevent stretch marks. Both this and the Mutha body oil smell AMAZING too.

STRETCH MARK PRODUCTS // Mustela Stretch Marks CreamMustela Stretch Marks Oil

Mustela is another maternity beauty brand that many people recommended to me. They have a wide range of products that are all budget-friendly and can be shopped on Amazon! So far I’ve been using the Stretch Marks Cream and Stretch Marks Oil on my belly, hips, thighs and boobs. Both are formulated with 100% natural ingredients, free of parabens or any other nasty additives and can help prevent/fade stretch marks.

I tend to use the oil when I know I have a little bit more time to get ready since I’ve found it needs a few minutes to absorb. Even though it says fragrance-free it does have a slight scent, which I personally don’t mind, however I don’t think it’s a scent that everyone would love. In contrast, the Stretch Marks Cream is very much unscented and absorbs faster than the oil–so if those are two factors you’re looking for I’d opt for the cream instead.

POST-PREGNANCY PRODUCTS // Mustela Nursing Comfort Balm | Mustela Stretch Marks Serum

I haven’t tried these two Mustela products yet, but still wanted to share for those of you who are new mommas or in need of a product to fade existing stretch marks. If I end up testing either one I will definitely share my thoughts on my Instagram story!

Katies Bliss Stretch Mark and Moisturizing Products

EVERYDAY BODY MOISTURIZERS // Necessaire The Body LotionKORRES Sea Lavender Body Butter | Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream

All three of these body moisturizers are meant for anyone– not just expectant moms! I was already a fan of Korres Sea Lavender Body Butter and Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream prior to my pregnancy and have continued regularly using both! The Korres body butter is a great everyday all-over cream and has the most amazing light lavender scent. It also absorbs fast and contains primarily all natural ingredients.

If you’re prone to eczema flare ups like me, then I’d definitely encourage having Eucerin’s Eczema Relief Cream in your bodycare arsenal. I like to use this when my skin is extra dry and red. Necessaire The Body Lotion is a recent moisturizer find that I’ve really been enjoying. It’s fragrance-free, goes on super smooth and is packed with vitamins that support the health and natural pH of the skin.

PRE & POST-NATAL BODY MOISTURIZER // Kate McLeod Mama Stone (there are 6 different formulas— all with different purposes!)

The Kate McLeod Mama Stone definitely takes the title of the most unique pregnancy beauty product that I’ve tried. It looks like a solid bar of soap, but I promise it’s actually a moisturizer that you definitely only want to use outside of the bath or shower. To apply all you do is rub it against your skin and the bar “melts” on contact. It’s really cool and I love how it’s a 100% plant-based product that’s completely vegan, hypoallergenic and “clean.” My only complaint about this moisturizer is how fast it goes. When I first got it I was applying it everyday, but now I only use it sparingly because with daily full-body use I doubt it would last more than three weeks. I’ll likely end up using it more once baby boy is here!

Since my skin is prone to product-related breakouts, when I find something I love I continue to repurchase it. It’s a big reason why I rarely experiment with new primers, foundations and concealers– all the ones you see here I’ve been using for at least 6+ months. My foundation has been my go-to for nearly 2 years!

This is pretty much my exact daily routine. Sometimes if I’m in a time crunch I’ll skip the cheek contour and eyeshadow, but other than that this is what I always wear. A lot of these products I actually had my makeup artist use on me for my wedding day— that’s when ya know something’s good!

I still love and use most of the below, however here are a few new products I’ve incorporated into my everyday routine!

Not only have I been loading up on vitamin C with my vitamins and diet, I've incorporated it into my beauty routine too thanks to new Olay Tone Perfection Serum with Vitamin B3 + C.

Serums have always been an integral component of my skincare regimen. Typically these are the products that do the heavy-lifting and have potent ingredients that give skin visible, long-lasting results. I like to apply it directly to clean skin right after I've washed my face prior to applying moisturizer and eye cream!

Not only have I been loading up on vitamin C with my vitamins and diet, I’ve incorporated it into my beauty routine too thanks to new Olay Tone Perfection Serum with Vitamin B3 + C. Did you know Olay is the first major U.S. skincare brand to make a commitment to zero skin retouching in their advertising? Hopefully this will encourage more companies to follow suit and be more transparent!

SKINCARE PICK-ME-UP // Olay Tone Perfection Serum (now on sale for $28.99)

For the last few weeks I’ve been applying a few drops of Olay’s Tone Perfection Serum to my face and neck every morning and evening before bed. Considering how much time I’ve spent indoors recently, I can vouch that it’s an amazing pick-me-up for dull skin. The vitamin-rich formula brightens and hydrates after one day of use and with extended use with only continue to benefit your complexion.

I personally love how lightweight it feels on my skin and that it absorbs quickly. No waiting around before applying my moisturizer–  I can just apply it and quickly finish my routine! It also doesn’t leave any sticky residue.

PS those with sensitive skin will be happy to know this serum is fragrance-free and doesn’t contain any parabens, phthalates or synthetic ingredients. And yes, it’s pregnancy-safe!

It's that time of year... The weather is frigid. The only clothing I want to put on is loungewear. My motivation to get out and do fun things around the city is at a minimum. And the last thing I want to do is wash and heat style my hair. January #hibernationmode is a real thing!

I think most of y'all are pretty familiar with my hair history and maintenance routine, but here's a short refresher! I have my hair colored (just highlights) and trimmed on average every eight weeks. For the last year I've also been getting tape-in extensions, which I LOVE (you can read more about those here.)

My natural hair type is thick, wavy and on the dry side. Some days it’s a lot to handle, which is why I like to keep my at-home routine as minimal as possible. During a typical week I will wash my hair just twice… sometimes once if I can get away with it. When I tell people this, I usually get a mix of reactions that range from, “how is that even possible…” and “but your hair looks so clean?” and “no way, what products are you using???”

I credit two things for allowing me to become bffs with my shower cap: 1) my naturally dry wavy hair and 2) re-styling products that refresh my locks in between showers.

Ever heard of the Pantene Waterless Collection? This new line of products from Pantene was specifically created for reviving and styling second, third and even fourth day hair in between washes. With this line every hair day can look just as fab as it does freshly washed and styled.

Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam & Dry Conditioning Mist

Over the last few weeks I tested two different products from the collection on the days I didn’t wash my hair: Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam and Pantene Mist Behaving Dry Conditioner Mist. Here’s a little bit more info about each!

Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam– Gives hair a waterless wash and removes oil without leaving any residue. Can be used on all hair types and doesn’t contain any sulfates or parabens. To use, you dispense a small amount on your fingertips, section hair, and run in at the roots. It is infused with Pro-Vitamin B5 and orchid flower.

Pantene Mist Behaving Dry Conditioner Mist– Moisturizing spray that tames flyaways and frizz and will detangle even the thickest locks. Formula nourishes hair thanks to Pro-Vitamin B5, Omega-9, aloe, and jojoba oil – also paraben and sulfate-free. Just spray at the ends of your hair for a quick refresh.

I found the dry conditioner mist most helpful on days when I wore my hair in a top knot. I’m a big fan of buns… when they’re tamed. This mist was a game changer in keeping down my flyaways and baby hairs around the frame of my face. A light spritz (make sure to shake the can first and hold 6-8 inches away) was enough to tame any uncooperative hairs and I LOVED how it didn’t leave my hair crunchy or feeling like it was coated in product.

Roots feeling a little greasy? Noticing shine on your hair? Then you need this dry shampoo foam!

I found the dry shampoo foam most helpful on days when I was just starting to feel like my hair was getting dirty. I tend to notice grease and shine first on my front layers so to refresh these strands I’ll dispense a small pump of the foam into my fingertips and massage at the roots. It absorbs and dries nearly instantly! Next I’ll take a 3-inch section of the hair and dutch braid it down the side of my face.

It’s funny because I’ll get so many compliments when I wear my hair like this, but little do people know the only reason I’m doing it is to hide the fact I haven’t washed my hair LOL.

See? Not all non-wash days have to be “bad” hair days!

Frequent washes and excessive heat can be incredibly damaging to hair. I’ve personally found my own locks have become so much healthier now when I do it in a style that doesn’t require heat or freshly cleaned hair. I’ve always been a fan of going multiple days between washes, so I’m really excited that Pantene has come out with a line that encourages women to do the same.

Over the last month I’ve been playing around with all three Retinol24 products: a moisturizer, serum and eye cream. The eye cream in particular has become a staple in my nighttime routine.

Before I get into reviewing the products, let’s chat about the key ingredient: Retinol. Never heard of it? Do you know about it but feel intimidated?

Retinol is considered by many a “holy grail” anti-aging skincare ingredient. It’s a synthetic form of Vitamin A that boosts collagen and cell turnover to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots. With regular use skin will look smoother, brighter and more youthful. When products containing retinol are applied correctly the results can be very visible, but as with any highly-effective ingredient you need to follow directions.

Olay Retinol24 Review

The reason the Olay Retinol24 collection is a big deal is because products with retinol are typically very expensive. I was shocked when I first learned of the line because I had been under the impression that retinol was reserved for luxury brands or dermatologist-prescribed products. Leave it up to Olay to shake up the drugstore skincare aisles with not one, but three affordably-priced products containing this power-packed ingredient!

Each Retinol24 product contains a unique formulation of B3 + a game-changing Retinoid Complex using two types of retinol. These ingredients are meant to give skin the maximum results of a retinol, without the irritation or adverse side effects. The reason the collection is named Retinol24– emphasis on the 24– is because the products work for 24 hours providing skin maximum hydration. Gentle is definitely a word I would use to describe it!

Olay Retinol24 Skincare Collection

Prior to using the Olay Retinol24 collection, I’d only ever tried one other product with retinol and my experience was positive. I introduced it to my skin gradually– starting with twice a week and slowly working my way up to every other day. I followed that same strategy with my new Olay goodies and would recommend anyone who is new to retinol to do the same. Start with 1-2 days per week, see how your skin reacts and then work your way up to more frequent use.

Olay Retinol24 products can used as a trio or you can incorporate just one into your routine if there’s an area of your face where aging is a concern. After playing around with the collection, I found myself gravitating most to the eye cream. The skin underneath and at the corners of the eyes is incredibly delicate and prone to aging. Olay Retinol24 eye cream is a great defense against crows feet and sagging– two signs of aging I am working very hard to prevent.

I have been using the eye cream every night in my evening routine. I dab a small amount to the skin underneath my eyes and along my brow bone, gently working it into my skin. It’s a very rich and hydrating cream that will work overnight to firm and brighten, while also reducing dark circle and lines. It’s very gentle too and I haven’t experienced any irritation with daily use. On top of giving my skin incredible anti-aging benefits, I love how it’s super moisturizing.

Olay Retinol24 moisturizer, serum and eye cream are all affordably priced (currently $28.99 on Olay.com— though prices may vary by retailer.) You can’t deny the savings when comparing to luxury retinol products which tend to retail for $100+. If you’re new to retinol and looking to test the waters without spending a fortune, the Olay Retinol24 collection is a good place to start.
