I wore this look on Saturday night out to dinner with a few blogger friends that were in town. I knew it was going to be cold so I wanted to dress warm but still look chic – how do you think I did?
I was wearing…
Topshop dress (last worn here and here) | Forever21 vest | Target turtleneck | Milly clutch | Prada sunglasses | Marc by Marc Jacobs pumps | Stella & Dot necklace | Marc by Marc Jacobs earrings
I’ll be honest – fashion week this year was a double-edged sword for me. Normally I look forward to the mayhem and seeing out of town blogging friends, but this year I actually felt myself sort of dreading the whole thing. I knew I wouldn’t be able to attend many events or shows – most happen during the work week and I like my weekends to recharge and work on my blog – not run around the city in freezing temperatures. Going into this fashion week I knew I was going to be taking a step back and I was okay with that. But then of course the inevitable happened – I looked on Instagram, Twitter and started feeling down. Yesterday morning I woke up and my confidence was just totally down the drain. Part of me was kicking myself for not making more of an effort to actually get out there to the shows, promote my blog and expand my network. The other part of me was kicking myself for feeling guilty about not doing that in the first place. So what did I do? I talked it out with Nick (he always puts things into perspective) and looked up some inspiring quotes on confidence. Here are some of my favorites:
“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.”
“Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence.”
and my favorite…
“The more you love your decisions, the less you need others to love them.”
SO that is my personal mantra for the week and for you guys! If you have any advice for me or tips on how to maintain confidence I would love to hear your thoughts. And a big thank you again for reading! xo

I love these quotes. I know this feeling so well, I struggle with self confidence quite often and it’s so easy to loose it and much more difficult to get it back. Hope you are feeling better!

Love the creative layering and the pop of pink! I totally get where you’re coming from with Fashion Week. We just got a puppy, and the past couple of months were all about the application process and getting ready for his arrival. Fashion Week kind of snuck up on me, and I realized I had totally dropped the ball on reaching out to brands and fellow bloggers. Fast forward, and now I’m having major FOMO as I look at everyone’s Instagram feeds and walk around the city. That said, there will be other Fashion Weeks and other opportunities. It’s easy to fall into the comparison game and give in to doubt, but the truth is that even though there are a lot of fashion bloggers, we all bring something unique to the table…and that’s important to remember. (Sorry for the novel!)

Katie, it’s totally okay to have “me” time. Life is short and you want to do what’s most important to you. Whether it’s working on your blog or spending more time with Nick, do what matters to you most. Fashion Weeks will always be there and that’s why I’m not personally in a rush. I’m connecting with my readers (though there’s not a lot, lol) and just growing my blog and business, two of my top three things that are important to me. You maintain confidence by surrounding yourself with people who believe in you more than you believe in yourself. Here’s what I wrote recently that I wholeheartedly believe in: Greatness is Not Thrusted Upon You. Another quote that’s helped me is what Jon Acuff said, “Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.” I’m always reading your blog because I believe in you. You’re genuine and don’t just post outfits with links. You take the time to connect with your readers and be you. You are destined for greatness in whatever you want to do. Even though we don’t know each other, I believe in you! XO

I think having “me” time is so necessary. I feel like by you living in New York and things are constantly going on (especially regarding fashion/blogging) it can be easy to feel left out of things but I think with that you know there is always going to be another event you can go to when you feel more up to it. Recharge and don’t get burnt out girl 🙂

Hi Katie!
I agree with so many of the above comments. It’s 100% okay to have ‘me’ time. This won’t be the last NYFW. And to be honest, the next one in September will be much warmer!! Social media makes FOMO a real thing. And we live in a city where there are so many exciting things going on all the time!! I struggle with it too. But sometimes its good to take a step back from it all … relax and recharge (with a glass of wine or two!). I hope you’re feeling better!

I love your blog because you are very real. I could care if you go to fashion week or not. Sometimes, one needs to take care of themself and the ones they love. It can be easy to second guess a choice after the fact but you made the right decision at the time. You seem like an amazing hard working brave young woman. You will go places! And, hopefully, we will get to read about it in your blog. Best, Michelle
