Sometimes you gotta get back to the basics. For me that’s a pair of distressed denim, a classic trench coat and a long sleeve stripe t-shirt. All of these pieces are great because there’s so many styling options, plus you can mix and match with other items in your closet.

I mentioned last week that I’m trying to do a better job of styling light outerwear and here you can see another attempt featuring a classic trench coat. There’s no shortage of styles out right now, but after looking at a few options I went with this one because 1) it’s water repellent, 2) it has a hood and 3) the fabric is actually sturdy. I definitely didn’t buy this coat for warmth, but it’s nice how that element is there.

It’s hard to go wrong with stripes and I’ll admit that I have more than a handful of similar tops in my closet. What convinced me to get this stripe shirt was the cute ruffled detailing across the chest and shoulders. Her you can see I styled it super casually, but think it would look equally as nice dressed up with a skirt and heels. You also can’t beat that $37 price tag.

I picked up these distressed skinny jeans from my favorite budget denim brand and once again I’m super impressed with the quality and fit. Everyone loves to rave on and on about the value of investing in designer denim, but I’ve honestly stopped wearing a lot of my pricier jeans in favor of under $100 styles. When it comes to pants all I care is that they fit like a glove. I can’t tell you how many expensive jeans I’ve had where I have to constantly pull them up all day long. You’ll be suffocating in the waist and then have all this extra room in the crotch and booty– it’s actually the worst. Definitely not the case with this pair and only $64 to boot!
What are some of your spring wardrobe staples? Would love to hear in the comments!

I’ve heard so many good things about Articles of Society jeans and would love to try a pair from them. Sometimes affordable jeans are so much better than premium ones!

That coat looks beautiful on you! Living in South Florida my wardrobe staples are a little different – navy and printed sundresses, printed shorts, tees and lots of Jacks! And stripes of course! xAllie http://www.theallthatglittersblog.com

I always encourage having a wardrobe of staples , and like you point out , these include some classics. A great trench coat is one of the main staples of a classic wardrobe.
