I can’t believe it’s already been a month since we welcomed our sweet Nate into the world! He is such a joy and every day is better than the last. Recently I’ve been getting a lot of requests to share my must-have newborn baby essentials so I put together this comprehensive list of all the products we have used most these first few weeks with our boy.

Must-Have Newborn Baby Essentials

BABYBJORN Cradle

Deciding on a bassinet was a struggle but we ultimately went with the BABYBJORN cradle and have been happy with our decision! The design is chic and compact so it works great in a small space. It’s also very lightweight and can easily be moved from room to room. We keep it right next to our bed and Nate has been sleeping great in it!

Huckleberry App

Since Nate’s arrival, we have religiously tracked every feed, diaper change and pump session in the Huckleberry app. It’s become a bit of an obsession for us, but it’s been incredibly helpful to see how much he is eating everyday and have a record of his diapers, when I last pumped, etc. Highly recommend that every new parent downloads and uses this!

Hatch Baby Grow Smart Changing Pad and Scale

This changing mat does it all! It’s easy to clean, comfortable for baby AND it’s a scale! You can download an app which makes it easy to track your baby’s weight between doctor’s visits.

Uppababy Vista Stroller

OUTFIT DETAILS // Sherpa Coat | Thermal Button Down Top | Leggings | Similar Booties | Sunglasses

UPPAbaby VISTA V2 Stroller

Literally every mom I talked to in person and on Instagram recommended we get the UPPAbaby VISTA stroller— so far we love it! It’s durable, well-made, has strong safety stats and is very easy to use. Bonus: the bassinet attachment can be used for sleeping! It’s where we plan to have Nate sleep anytime we go visit family.

Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Ribbed Throw Blanket

Not specifically meant for babies, but it’s Nate’s favorite! I originally ordered this throw blanket for myself to use during my third trimester and at the hospital, but since welcoming our lil man it’s become his go-to blanket! We lay it on the Boppy when he’s napping and basically use it anytime we feed and snuggle him. He must love it because it has his mama’s scent 🙂

Dr. Brown’s Options+ Slow Flow Bottle Set for Breastfed Baby

While Nate is primarily being breastfed, he does get 2-3 bottles of pumped milk per day. We ordered these bottles specifically for the slow flow nipple which basically mimics a boob and helps baby avoid developing a preference for the bottle vs the breast.

Boppy Newborn Lounger

ITEMS PICTURED // Boppy Newborn Lounger | Pom Pom Hat | Sweater | Pants & Mittens

Boppy Original Newborn Lounger

So far this is the lounger we’ve used the most with Nate! Anytime he snoozes during the day or we put him down to relax, it’s on his Boppy. It fits really nicely on our couch and is easy to move around the apartment. We have the Doc-A-Tot too, however it’s much larger than a Boppy, so we’re waiting to use that until he’s a little bigger. The Boppy is perfect for newborns!

Elvie Pump Single Silent Wearable Breast Pump with App – Electric Hands-Free Portable Pump

I purchased the Elvie to have as a portable hands-free option when I’m unable to sit down and use the Spectra. It’s easy to use, quiet and very discreet (you just wear it in your bra underneath a shirt), however at this point in my breastfeeding journey I’ve found it’s not nearly as efficient as the Spectra. That said, my supply is still building so I’m hoping I’ll be able to eventually use it more often in place of the Spectra

Hello Bello Diapers

Over the last month we’ve tested a bunch of different diaper brands— Hello Bello, Honest, Pampers Pure, Happy Camper— and Hello Bello is my personal favorite! I love that there’s a line that changes color to let you know the diaper is wet. I also feel like it’s the brand that stays on the best and just fits him well. Hello Bello diapers are also free of lotion, fragrance and phthalates + have a plant-derived absorbent core liner.

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Baby Bottle

This is another bottle style that we’ve been using to feed Nate. It functions very similar to Dr. Brown’s bottles, however the shape is shorter and compact.

Burt’s Bees Baby 5-Pack Wandering Elephants Organic Cotton Burp Cloths in Heather Grey

I always have one of these burp cloths on hand for cleaning up bottle dribbles, etc. Super soft!

Ubbi Diaper Pail in Marble

Big fan of this diaper pail! It’s easy to open and close, keeps odor locked inside without absorbing nasty scents and can be used with regular trash bags. No complaints so far!

Spectra Baby USA S2Plus Electric Breast Pump

I’ve primarily been using the Spectra S2Plus pump and don’t have any complaints other than that it requires being plugged in, which I already solved with this portable battery. It’s a hospital grade pump and gets the job done. PS this is the hands-free pumping bra I use.

SwaddleMe Original Swaddle

Every night Nate gets snuggled up in a SwaddleMe velcro swaddle. He’s a wiggler and alwaysss tries to break free, but these keep his little squirmy arms in nice and tight so he doesn’t wake himself up. Nick and I also find them much easier to use compared to the blanket-style swaddles you see all over Instagram. We tried those and Nate was out of them within minutes LOL.

OXO Good Grips PerfectPull Wipes Dispenser

Great dispenser that keeps wipes wet and fresh. The poppable lid also makes it very easy to grab a wipe when you’re trying to quickly clean a wiggly baby.

Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine, Night Light and Time-to-Rise

Every night we use the Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine and Night Light when we’re putting Nate to sleep. It has a bunch of different sound settings— waves, white noise, lullabies, rain— and you can adjust the light color to any shade of the rainbow. Better yet— all of these settings can be controlled from your phone via an app.

Baby Shusher Sleep Miracle Soother Sound Machine

I’m always getting messages on Instagram asking what’s that white and orange gadget? It’s an amazing little sound machine that makes a calming shush sound! We use it during the day when Nate naps and will even bring it in his stroller or the car to help relax him if he gets unsettled. It’s super portable and has timers you can set for 15 or 30 minutes.

WaterWipes Sensitive Baby Wipes, Unscented

I ordered these wipes in bulk prior to Nate’s arrival! These wipes get the job done great and are made with 99.9% purified water + a drop of fruit extract. Very safe for sensitive baby skin!

WubbaNub Infant Pacifier – Giraffe

So far this is Nate’s favorite binky! The plush animal on the end gives him something to hold on to and helps keep the nipple in his mouth.

Million Dollar Baby Classic Willa Swivel Recliner

You all saw this glider in Nate’s nursery sneak peek and I can now attest to it’s comfort factor as a nursing spot! Nate and I spend a lot of time here when I’m feeding him and I have no complaints. It fits great in a small room and I love how it reclines and has a 360 degree swivel.

Lascal M1 Carrier

OUTFIT DETAILS // Lascal m1 Carrier | Baseball Hat | Sweater | Jeans | Booties

Lascal m1 Carrier, 8-33 lbs

This is the carrier we’ve primarily been using when we take Nate out and about and don’t want to use a stroller. So far we really like it! Nick and I can both easily wear it and feel like it keeps Nate incredibly secure. It can be used for a baby from 8lbs to 33lbs so it’s appropriate for the newborn – toddler stage.

Magnetic Me Magnetic Fastener Footie

These magnetic onesies are a game changer and make diaper changes fast and easy. Not only that Magnetic Me baby clothes are incredibly soft and have the cutest prints!

UPPAbaby MESA Infant Car Seat

Just like our VISTA stroller, we also love our UPPAbaby MESA car seat! It was very simple to install in our car and we find it easy to take Nate in and out of. Great safety ratings too! The only thing is that it’s a bit hefty. I can lift it fine myself but I definitely wouldn’t describe it as a lightweight, easy-to-carry car seat.
